Stay ahead of fraud
**Never** give out financial information - bank, debit or credit card details - to anyone. **Never** send money by wire, money transfer or mail. **Never** share your Social Security number, home or work address. A common scam is to build a connection, then invent an emergency (often overseas) and ask for help.

Rushing you off-site
Wanting your email or phone number, or to move to another app, very quickly.
Stranded abroad
Claiming to be local but currently traveling or working overseas and in some kind of trouble.
Too-good stories
Long, dramatic tales of hardship, investments, or instant "destiny."
Asking for money
Anyone who asks you for money or assets in any form - in any amount.
Practical tips
Trust your instincts - if something feels off, slow down or stop. Protect your identity and don't reveal your home address or phone number too soon. Use a cell number, not your home line, when you start talking by phone. On shared computers, always log out and skip "remember me." Block and report anyone abusive or pushy about personal or financial information.
Meeting in person
Meet in a public, populated place - never somewhere private or remote. Tell a friend or family member who you're meeting and where, and keep a phone on you. Stay sober and alert. Drive yourself or arrange your own transportation so you're always in control of how you leave, and keep your belongings, ID and drink with you.
Long-distance meetings
Stay in a hotel - never in the other person's home - and keep your location private. Decline an airport pickup and use a taxi or rental car. A safe person will respect your privacy until you know each other.
